MORE GUN LAWS MEANS FEWER GUN DEATHS

Every day, on average, 309 people in America are shot in murders, assaults, suicides & suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, and police intervention. Common sense gun laws will help prevent these deaths.

COMMON SENSE GUN LAWS

UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

- - -

Universal Background Checks for all gun and ammunition sales in every state makes sense. Studies have shown that the lack of federal regulations makes all citizens vulnerable to the dangers of illegal gun trafficking from states with weaker gun laws.

LEGALIZING CDC RESEARCH ON GUN VIOLENCE

- - -

Congress has banned federal gun violence research since 1996. An average of 32 people are killed by a gun in America every day, yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can’t even conduct research into the root causes of all forms of gun violence.

LETHAL GUN VIOLENCE ORDER OF PROTECTION ACT

- - -

Empowering immediate family members who are concerned about a loved one hurting themselves or others is not a ridiculous notion. Similar to a domestic violence restraining order, an LVOP law would allow courts to remove a person’s access to guns if he or she poses a significant risk of personal injury to him – or herself or others by possessing guns.

STATE LICENSE FOR GUN DEALERS

- - -

Legislation that would require all gun dealers to obtain a state license holding them accountable for guns and ammunition found in the illegal market. By employing responsible business practices a gun dealer can reduce criminals' access to guns—and, correspondingly, gun crime, deaths and injuries.

ABOUT

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the reduction of death and injury caused by firearms.

That's why we've launched the Teddy GunTM. A highly provocative product that aims to expose the discrepancies in relaxed gun regulations, and create constructive conversation, and ultimately political pressure, for common sense gun laws.
